How to Make Your Own Degreaser
what you'll need
- Spray bottle
- 1/4 cup of oil-based soap (i.e. Murphys Oil Soap)
- 2 cups of hot tap water
- 10 to 15 drops of tea tree, rosemary, herbal Neem essential oil or lavender
Degreasers are best known for their amazing performance on cleaning away the greasy film that shows up the surfaces of appliances and other kitchen countertops after cooking and kitchen work. Although there are many commercial spray cleaners in the market, the availability in the choice of organic and natural cleansers is somewhat limited. You do not have to worry about that, though. It is now possible to assemble your very own homemade degreaser that easily and quite quickly cleans and cuts thick grease on the countertops of your kitchen. Based on 4 simple steps, you can assemble your own degreaser at home. Remember that homemade greasers are always best to use. You can even add fragrance in to the degreaser too! You do not have to worry about the strange odor of detergents anymore; homemade degreasers can have their own lovely fragrance.
Step 1 – Removal of Sprayer
Remove the sprayer compartment of the spray bottle and put it aside. This will help you pour your own mixture in the bottle. Make sure that the spray bottle you have chosen for yourself is made of plastic and has no holes in it. A new spray bottle is always useful.
Step 2 – Add Oil Soap and Essential Oil
Pour in the oil soap and the essential oil you have into the bottle and shake it around for a while so that the ingredients are mixed well together. Bubbles will appear and this means that you have mixed the ingredients well. A homogenous mixture will ensure a better degreaser and a cleaner countertop!
Step 3 – Add Water and Shake
Now that you have mixed the essential oil and the oil soap together to make a homogenous mixture, you need to add the hot water into the liquid. Shake it gently. Soap suds will appear in the bottle and that means you have mixed the hot water and the ingredients completely well.
Step 4 – Tighten Spray Bottle
When you are done with the mixing, you need to tighten the spray bottle shut. But before you do that, you need to let the bubbles or the soap suds subside and then close the bottle shut. Degrease your countertop with this mixture now. You can even add detergent soap into it now. You can also combine inexpensive ingredients from laundry products so that there is a scent in your degreaser. Cheap laundry soaps like Borax and Arm and Hammer washing soda always work wonders for dirty, greasy surfaces in the kitchen.
