How to Measure for Replacement Bathroom Countertops

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Pencil and paper to record dimensions
  • Measuring tape
  • Ruler or level

It is time for a revamp and the bathroom countertops are looking old and outdated. Below are some of the measurements you will need before beginning your remodel.

Step 1: Measure Current Bathroom Countertops

Use a measuring tape and carefully record the height and width of current bathroom countertops and check three times to be sure it is done correctly. Draw on the edge with vertical lines and take into account the extra space needed to get replacement tops. Measure the height from the ground and the floor area occupied, not just the top of the counter.

Step 2: Take the Surroundings into Account

Add in at least a few inches on each side and take into account the distance to wall and other objects such as the bathtub.

Again use the tape to measure and note the locations of the water pipes and drain lines that will affect the bathroom countertop location.

Once you have the measurements, you will be able to add the numbers and find the height and the width.

Generally bathroom countertops are range between 32-1/2 inches to 34-1/2 inches, but the replacement measurements will depend on the intentions of the renovator. If it is meant to be replaced by the same type of material at the same place, it will be easy to measure. If an upgrade is taking place, the proper dimensions must be recorded for the bathroom countertop to fit into the allotted space.
