How to Pack a Storage Locker

by DoItYourself Staff

A storage locker in your apartment, condo or in a public storage unit is only as useful as you make it by efficient packing. Learn below about how to pack any type of storage locker, as well as what not to store in one.

What to Put in Your Storage Locker

Make an inventory list of the things you want to put in your locker. Sort them into heavy furniture, boxed items and odd-shaped objects. These could also include seasonal goods like lawn furniture and sports equipment, and your artificial Christmas tree.

What Not to Put in Your Storage Locker

Never put flammable materials, paint, solvents, firearms, or any toxic chemicals that could emit fumes in your storage locker.

How to Pack Your Storage Locker

Fill your storage locker in an inverted U shape, always leaving a small center aisle in line with the door that you can work in, to rotate items in and out as you need them. Place large, heavy items that are in permanent storage against the far wall of the storage locker. Stack items as close to the ceiling as possible. Use identical boxes to pack small items. Put those things you will move in and out seasonally near the door.
