How to Paint a Child's Rocking Chair
what you'll need
- Drop cloth
- Sandpaper
- Tack cloth
- Spray paint
- Old rag
- Clear coat spray
A child's rocking chair is usually passed down from child to child, or even to a grandchild. With the beating they take from little ones, you may want to give it a fresh coat of paint.
Step 1 - Sand the Surface
You will want to do this outside or in a garage so the dust doesn't fly all over your house. Place the rocking chair on a drop cloth and sand the entire surface to remove any loose debris. Wipe with a tack cloth to clean off the sandpaper residue, and you're ready to start painting.
Step 2 - Painting Your Rocking Chair
Spray the rocking chair with paint by applying it in a sweeping motion to get an even coat. Catch any runs in the paint immediately with an old rag. You can go back over these areas if this happens to even it out. Allow the rocking chair to completely dry. If desired, you can turn it over to paint the bottom too. After it has all dried, you will spray on the clear coat.
Step 3 - Apply Clear Coat Spray
Apply the clear coat in the same sweeping motion as you did the paint. If the rocking chair gets a lot of use, you can add a second coat for protection.
