by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Sandpaper
  • Safety glasses
  • Wire brush
  • Metal primer
  • Paint primer
  • Cleaning rags
  • Dust mask
  • Old newspapers

A metal coffee table eventually chips and rusts by time. Applying a fresh paint coating will rejuvenate the beauty of your metal coffee table. Below are the materials that you need along with the instructions on how to paint your metal coffee table.

Step 1 - Remove the Old Paint

Wearing safety glasses, dust mask and gloves, remove the old paint from your metal coffee table using sandpaper and wire brush. Brush away the paint and rust with the wire brush first and then smooth your metal coffee table with the sandpaper.

Step 2 - Wipe

Using cleaning rags, thoroughly wipe the surface of the metal coffee table to remove pain residues and rusts. After cleaning, place old newspapers at each leg of the metal coffee table as a preparation of the next step.

Step 3 - Apply Paint Primer

Shake the canned metal primer thoroughly. Position the metal primer a foot away from the surface of your metal coffee table and apply the primer using smooth and long strokes. Make sure to prime the entire surface of your metal coffee table before applying metal primer on the legs of your metal coffee table. Dry for at least 2 hours.

Step 4 - Apply Paint Finish

Apply paint finish starting with the legs and then the surface of your metal coffee table. Use a smooth spraying motion and maintain the distance of 1 foot between the paint spray nozzle and your metal coffee table. Allow the paint finish to dry overnight before using your newly painted metal coffee table.
