If you have a ping pong table that you have built or one that needs to be revitalized, you will need to know how to paint a ping pong table. It is not simply a matter of applying some green paint; you will need to know what type of paint and where to paint the white lines.
The game of ping pong, also known as table tennis, has long been a favorite past-time for many families for many years. It is a game that uses a small white ball and a ping pong racquet. It can be played indoors or outdoors, by children and adults.
Step 1: The Tools and Supplies
Gather together in one location all the tools and supplies that you will need to complete this task.
Step 2: The Base Coat
Apply an even coat of the base paint to the entire table top. Allow it to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 3: Taping for the White Lines
The side lines and the end line are set along the edges of the ping pong table. The side lines run the length of the table, and the end lines are at each short end of the table. These lines are ¾ inch wide.
The line that runs down the length of the table in the center is the line that is used when playing doubles. It is 1/8 inch wide.
Once the base coat of paint has dried completely, measure the width of the table and mark the exact center along the length of the table. This is where the center line will be located. Using the 1/8 inch wide painter’s masking tape, place a line lengthwise from one end of the table to the other. Press the tape down firmly so that green paint will not get underneath it.
Using the ¾ inch painter’s masking tape, run a strip along all four edges of the table. Press down firmly so that green paint will not get underneath.
Step 4: The Medium Green Paint
Apply two coats of the green enamel paint, making sure that the first coat has dried according to the manufacturer’s instructions before you apply the second. Let it dry completely.
Step 5: The White Paint
When the green paint is completely dry, carefully remove the masking tape from the table top. Using a small paint brush, very carefully apply two coats of the white paint within the lines left by the tape, allowing the paint to dry completely between coats.
If you are not sure that you will be able to free hand paint the white lines, you could run the painter’s masking tape along the outside edges of the location where the white paint goes. If you do this, be very careful when you remove the paint once the white paint has dried so that you do not remove any of the green paint.
