Changing the look of cabinet door hinges is the most inexpensive way to also change the look of your  entire kitchen. Stainless steel or nickel hinges are making a big splash in the remodeling industry. Brass cabinet door hinges use to be the most common, however many people want to liven up their cabinet door hardware to give a cleaner, brighter look. Painting your cabinet door hinges is one way to do this. You can  easily paint your hinges on a weekend afternoon.

Step One - Remove Cabinet Door

Remove the cabinet doors from the cabinet with a screwdriver, or an electric screwdriver. Do not use a drill as it may strip the screw heads. Once the doors have been removed you can then remove the cabinet door hinges.

Step Two - Clean Hinges

In order to get the spray paint to adhere to the cabinet door hinges you will need to clean the cabinet door hinges. Using a small container, pour some of the metal cleaner into it. Place the cabinet door hinges and the screws into the cleaner. Let them sit in the cleaner for an hour or two.

Place a drop cloth on the work surface and put on your gloves. Remove the hinges and brush them with a wire brush. This will help strip off the metal finish and the paint that is already on them. Clean off any dirt. Repeat the same cleaning process with all the hinge pieces.

Step Three - Dry Hinges

After the cabinet door hinges have been cleaned, set them aside to dry. Use a dry cloth to wipe them off and make sure there is no cleaner remaining.

Step Four - Paint Hinges

Line the cabinet door hinges up on the drop cloth. Make sure the room you are using is well ventilated before you start spraying the paint. Hold the spray can about 8 inches away from the work pieces and spray an even coat over them all. Let the paint dry completely and then flip the hinges over. Spray the underside of the hinges in the same way holding the can about 8 inches away. Let the pieces dry completely before touching them again.

Step Five - Re-attach Cabinet Door Hinges

After the cabinet door hinges have dried you can re-attach them to the cabinet door. Line the hinges up in the area that they were previously. Make sure they are sitting flush on the door and secure to the door with the screws. Be careful not to scratch the finish with the screwdriver.

Step Six - Hang Cabinet Doors On Cabinets

Lift the cabinet door back into position on the cabinet face. Line up the cabinet door hinges and make sure they are level and then secure with the screws. Starting at the top, screw the hinges and then install the doors. Repeat the procedure with all doors.
