How to Paint Plastic Ceiling Tiles

Plastic ceiling tiles are among the most popular ways of decorating a ceiling. They are not only user-friendly, but also decorative. Though they come in many colors, patterns and styles, you can create a unique look by painting them yourself. Follow the simple steps below to paint any plastic ceiling tiles.

Clean the Tile

To begin, clean each tile with a solution of soap and water. Ensure that you remove any stickers or other pieces that will be problematic during insulation.

Use Spray Paint

Spray paint ensures that the entire surface area of the tile is covered at one go. Spray bottles used for spray painting are easily available in the hard ware shops. All you need to do is put the paint and solution in these bottles and start spraying. 

In case you want to make elaborate or decorative patterns on the tiles, cover the base area by using spray paint. Let the paint dry and then you can reapply another coat of spray paint to ensure that the base is firm. 

While painting, remember to put the tile adhesive in the solution. This adhesive holds to bind the paint to plastic ceiling tiles.. 

Use Acrylic Paint

You can use special acrylic paint to draw motifs on plastic ceiling tiles. To ensure that the paints are not smudged, use a stencil and pencil to draw the motif on the plastic ceiling tiles. Once the basic sketch is in place, you can use colors to fill up the gaps. 

Painting Designs

If you have a large ceiling to cover, then you can keep the tiles next to one another and draw a beautiful scenery on it. If you are doing up a child's room with ceiling tile, then you can paint stars on them to create the sensation of sleeping under the stars. 

Applying Varnish

When you have finished painting, let it completely dry. Once the painting dries, apply a varnish and weather coat on top of the tile. This is an important step in painting ceiling tiles. The varnish not only makes the tile glossy but also prevents it from fading. 

Checking the Final Effect

Once the tile is varnished and dried, it is ready to be put up on the ceiling. Make double checks to ensure that the tiles are properly placed in such a manner that your painting is accentuated.
