How to Patch a Textured Ceiling

Although a textured ceiling can be useful in hiding uneven surfaces and other flaws, when it comes time to patch a ceiling that is textured, the texturing may present problems as challenging as the flaw you're planning to patch, if you don't have the right materials and instructions. Step 1 – Choose the Right Texture Compound

Examine the ceiling surface you plan to patch, along with surrounding surface areas to determine the type of texture compound you'll need to match the existing surface.

Step 2 - Prepare the Surface

Check the ceiling surface you plan to patch. If the drywall is damp, you may need to repair a leak and replace the damaged drywall. For large cracks, fill them with drywall compound, allow it to dry, then sand the surface before applying texturing compound. If your ceiling has a large hole, you may need to patch the hole. The compound with cover narrow lines and small flaws when it is applied.

Step 3 – Apply the Texture Compound

Apply the compound with a drywall knife or putty knife. When you have a smooth surface, spray the texturing onto the patched area, then allow it to dry.
