How to Polish Limestone Flooring

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • A clean washcloth
  • Mineral oil

If your limestore flooring is in need of a good polish, you may be wondering how to go about administering it. If so, you'll be pleased to know that polishing limestone flooring can be a very simple undertaking. Read on to learn how to make your limestone flooring sparkle.

Step 1 - Prep Your Floor

Before polishing your limestone flooring, you will need to make sure the floor is free of dirt and debris. Use a broom and dustpan or a vacuum cleaner to remove any dust from the area. Caked-on dirt stands to cause problems when you're applying your polish, so when performing this step, make sure to be as thorough as possible.

Step 2 - Polish Your Floor

Having prepared your floor, you may now begin polishing your limestone flooring. When performing this step, make sure to use mineral oil, as polishes that contain potent amounts of wax will cause limestone to turn yellow over time. In addition, when used on limestone surfaces, these products tend to trap dirt despite giving the surfaces a shiny appearance. After confirming that you have mineral oil on hand, apply it to a clean washcloth and proceed to polish your floor in a circular motion.
