How to Preserve the Shine on Your Toolbox

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Warm soapy water
  • An absorbent towel
  • A few large cloths
  • General use polish
  • A clear spray sealant

A toolbox is a portable kit which is moved around regularly to make work easier. Continual movement and use can cause a toolbox to become dirty and grubby over time. The good news is there are simple ways to preserve your toolbox for longer use and ensure it stays looking brand new.

Step 1: Wash and Dry

Either remove all tools from the toolbox or lock it securely shut. Use a large cloth to wash the surface of the toolbox with soapy warm water. Dry the toolbox with an absorbent towel, which will soak up the moisture and remove any remaining soap suds.

Step 2: Polish

Apply a good amount of general use polish onto a clean cloth and rub it into the toolbox. Polish all areas of the toolbox and wipe down with another clean cloth. This should lift the shine on the toolbox and have it looking factory new.

Step 3: Sealant

Use a clear spray sealant and cover the surface of the toolbox. This will seal in your latest polish job and means the lifted shine of the toolbox will be preserved for much longer.
