How to Prevent a Car's Fuel Lines from Freezing
The fuel lines in any vehicle can become frozen when the outdoor temperatures reach temperatures below the freezing level. Water vapour in the gas tank can mix with the fuel in the line and freeze. Fixing a frozen line is typically inexpensive, but it can be cause for frustration. By following some simple steps, you can prevent the problem from happening in the first place.
Step 1 - Keeping Your Battery Charge at Maximum Level
Be sure that you have a fully charged battery in your vehicle. Small runs in your vehicle will lead to a drop in the battery charge, particularly if you have a number of items operating while you are driving. You can charge your battery to its maximum level by driving it for some time.
Step 2 - Maintaining Your Fuel System
You can prevent your fuel lines from freezing by pouring a fuel additive into the system. A fuel line antifreeze can be purchased a your local automotive shop, and added to your system. The moisture in the fuel system causes the freezing of the lines at low temperatures. When the line is frozen, fuel cannot flow to the engine. Keep your fuel tank to its maximum capacity, to decrease the amount of moisture that can enter the system and potentially freeze the lines.
