How to Properly Dispose of Waste When Repairing a Project Truck

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Integrated waste management
  • Landfill
  • Incineration
  • Recycling

When repairing a project truck, it is important to properly dispose of waste because of the environmental issues. Hazardous wastes can cause enormous damage to your health and the environment. Collecting, transporting, processing, recycling, and disposing are several techniques of monitoring waste materials. 208 million tons of solid waste are being created each year. Each person usually generates about 4.3 pounds of waste per day.

Step 1 - Differentiate Hazardous Waste from Non-Hazardous Waste

Depending upon the waste the management for it's disposal can differ based on it being in a urban area or a rural area. Often times non-hazardous wastes in a metropolitan area will be the hands of the local government authorities. Non-hazardous wastes in industrial and commercial areas are usually to be handled by the generator.Another important classification of waste is through their consistency. Solid wastes are materials that contain less then 70% of water. Liquid wastes are usually wastewater's that contain a less than a 1% of solids. These particular wastes may contain high concentrations of metals and salt. Includes in this particular category are materials of household garbage and industrial wastes.

Step 2 - Use Integrated Waste Management

Using the LCA life cycle analysis, one of the chosen methods would be to find options for mixed solid waste. Separating and collecting waste and then recycling and reusing non-organic materials, energy, and fertilized compositions of waste are favored more. Most non-metallic wastes become resources, and are not destroyed by incineration. They can be reused to protect natural resources from decreasing.

Step 2 - Disposing Wastes at a Landfill

If you choose to dispose of the waste at a landfill it will be buried. Landfills are common places for people to dispose of most waste. The refuse is spread thinly causing compacted layers which are covered beneath the ground. Although, disposing of wastes at a landfill may not be the best choice due to a number of poor impacts they can have on the environment. Litter can be blown from the landfill, they can attract vermin, and gas from the landfills can produce odors that can kill vegetation.

Step 3 - Incinerating Waste

Incinerating the wastes can be a suitable process of quickly disposing of the waste. The combustion method of this particular process can result in "thermal treatments." The treatment converts waste materials into gas, steam, ash, and heat. Any individual can perform this method of disposal themselves.

Step 4 - Recycle

Recycling waste materials initially begins as a disposal but ends up as a development of reuse. Waste materials are collected and sorted into categories so the natural materials of the wastes can be retracted and reprocessed into new products.

Step 5 - Follow the EPA

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is a government agency that focuses in enforcing proper disposal of wastes. Through their research and guidelines, you can find new and improved ways to properly dispose of the wastes. Preventing the overall generation of wastes enables a better method.
