How to Record Television on DVD Recorders

by DoItYourself Staff

The DVD recorders available today can be connected to your TV set to record programs, similar to connecting a video cassette recorder. Follow the outline below to record your favorite TV shows on a DVD recorder.

Connect the DVD Recorder

Your TV must have audio-visual input receivers at the front or on the back to connect a DVD player. If it does not, you will need to buy a radio frequency modulator (RF) to change the DVD signal into a signal usable by the TV set. Plug in the cable or satellite feed to the DVD recorder's antenna or cable input, and connect it with a separate cable to the television's RF input receiver.

Program the DVD Recorder to Record

Turn on the TV to Channel 3 or 4, and turn on the DVD recorder. Using the DVD recording menu, set the program time, channel and duration for recording, and turn off the DVD recorder.

Use the Correct DVD Disc Format for Your Recorder

Many DVD recorders use a format called DVD+R/+RW for "DVD recordable/plus rewritable". If yours is this format, get the DVD blank discs that are +R format. Check your owner's manual for the DVD disc format. Ensure your DVD blank discs can be used for video and data.
