by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Staple gun
  • Staples
  • Scissors

Can’t afford new dining room chair seat covers but need a new look? Just follow the instructions below:

:

Step 1 – Choose the Right Fabric

Choose a fabric that will enhance the décor of your room and that will be durable and easy to clean.

Step 2 – Remove Attaching Screws

Turn chair over and unscrew the four screws that attach the seat to the frame of your chair.

Step 3 – Remove Fabric Staples and Fabric

With a flat headed screw driver and needle-nosed pliers, remove the staples that attach the fabric to the seat. Gently, remove the old fabric.

Step 4 – Create a Seat Cover Pattern

Cut a cover out of the new fabric, leaving a margin of fabric you can wrap and fold on your chair cushion.

Step 5 -Staple Fabric

Mark screw hole positions on the seat. At each side of the chair seat, staple the fabric to the underside of the seat. Then, stretch the fabric outward and insert a staple about every two inches. At each corner, gather the fabric and staple it to the underside of the seat.

Step 6 – Finish

Trim away the excess fabric, and re-insert the screws to hold the seat in place.
