How to Remove a Wine Stain with Club Soda

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • 1-2 cups of club soda. The amount depends on how big the stain is.
  • Cloths to blot and dry.
  • Scrub brush or sponge.

Removing a wine stain can be a costly expense if you go to a dry cleaner or have someone come out and clean the stain. Instead of doing that you can easily remove a wine stain with club soda.

Step 1: Clean the Stain with a Dry Cloth

Make sure that you dry the stain to the best of your ability. This is to help the stain from setting in any further.

Step 2: Pour Club Soda

Pour the club soda onto the stain. Do not soak the stain but put enough on to get in the stain well. Let the carbonation bubble up on the stain. Leave the soda on for 15 to 30 minutes depending on size and how bad the wine stain is.

Step 3: Scrub and Dry

After the soda sets scrub the wine stain so that you lift up all the stain.  Blot dry with a dry cloth. If the stain is still present repeat until stain is gone.
