How to Remove Aluminum Window Wrap in 3 Steps

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Screwdriver
  • Pry bars
  • Hammer
  • Step ladder

Window wrapping is a widely practiced and popular means of protecting aluminum windows. Sometimes the need arises for protecting the window sills which might be made of wood. Windows of old houses are mostly made of wood and the action of natural elements such as wind, rain and sun causes them to deteriorate. At such times, window wrapping is done with aluminum to protect and prolong the life of the wooden frames. Aluminum window wrapping is available in many colors and styles. Installing it requires some knowledge of the cutting, folding and bending of aluminum coils.

Should it be found necessary to remove aluminum window wraps for any reason, this can be accomplished easily in simple steps.

Step 1 – Remove Lower Trims and Plates

Remove the lower L-angle trims by removing the screws (use pry bars or hammer, if needed.)  Remove the lower sill aluminum plates.

Step 2 – Remove Upper Trims

Climb on to the step ladder, screw out the top L-angle trims without causing the vertical sill plates to fall.

Step 3 – Remove Remaining Plates

Remove the vertical sill plates from both sides. Remove the top horizontal sill plates.
