How to Remove Body Wax from Hard Surfaces
what you'll need
- Hair dryer
- Old towel
- Spatula
- Ice
- Baby oil
- Paper towels
Body wax might be excellent for removing hair from skin but it’s not meant to end up on hard surfaces. If the body wax is spilled on that kind of surface it needs to be removed, but what’s the best way to do it? There are two ways to remove the bulk of the wax, one using heat, the other using cold. After these you’ll still need to use oil to take off the remainder of the body wax.
Step 1 - Starting
To begin, use paper towels to wipe up as much of the body wax as possible. This will make the task easier. Discard the wax and paper towels in the garbage. Where you proceed from here will depend on how hard the body wax is. This, in turn, will depend on how long the body wax has been sitting on the hard surface.
Step 2 - Heat
If the body wax has been sitting long enough to solidify then you should use heat in order to remove it. Cover the body wax with an old towel and switch a hair dryer on high. Play the heat from the hair dryer over the towel so it heats the wax. As the wax heats up, wipe at the surface with the towel to absorb it and expose the unheated wax.
Keep doing this until you’ve worked down through the wax. At this point much of the wax should have been absorbed into the towel. Once you’ve removed as much of the wax as possible, discard the towel in the garbage.
Step 3 - Cold
If the wax hasn’t completely solidified, you’ll achieve better results if you use ice to harden it. For this, cover the body wax with a clean tile and pile ice on the top. Leave it for 15 minutes to allow the wax to harden completely.
Now take a metal spatula and work it under the hard edge of the body wax before lifting to chip off part of the wax. Keep going to remove as much of the wax as possible. Where the wax is thick you might find that it hasn’t solidified properly. Stop, then cover with a towel and put ice on the body wax again and leave for a further 15 minutes before continuing.
Step 4 - Finishing
Having removed the bulk of the body wax, you’ll still be left with a residue on the hard surface that can become a bad stain. To take care of this, take a bottle of baby oil and some paper towels.
Put baby oil on some paper towels and wipe over the wax on the surface. You’ll need to keep going for several minutes and use a few changes of oils and paper towels to remove all the remainder of the body wax from the surface. Wipe with a clean paper towel and complete the removal of the body wax by washing with soap and water to take off the oil and then dry with a clean cloth.
