How to Remove Parquet Floors

Removing parquet floors with broken or missing blocks may prove to be a challenge to you if you want a smooth floor on which to lay a new wood floor. But there are methods that are effective and will allow you to remove these blocks without having to pay for professional workers to do it for you.

Step 1 – Remove Loose Blocks

With protective eyewear in place, locate several blocks (small square pieces) of parquet where edges are loose . Place the sharp edge of a chisel under this loose edge and pry the block loose from the floor.

Step 2 – Remove Adhesive Residue

After loosening and removing Parquet blocks, you may find a residue of Bitumen or glue remaining on the floor beneath it. If flooring beneath the Parquet is concrete, use a grinder to remove the Bitumen that remains adhered to it.

Step 3 – Clean-up

Sweep up and remove all dirt and debris left on the floor. Remove any nails, screws, or other projections in the floor surface. If the floor is wet, allow it to dry before applying new carpet pad or flooring adhesive.
