How to Remove Red Wine Carpet Stains
what you'll need
- Several dry white cloths
- Dish liquid
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Bowl (for mixing)
Red wine carpet stains are one of the worst imaginable stains. But no fear! There is an easy way to remove them, whether it is a new stain, or a stain that has set. Follow these instructions for successful removal.
Step 1 - Blot The Area If Still Fresh
If your red wine stain is fresh, you will want to blot up as much of it as you can with a clean, dry, white cloth. Be sure you do not rub, and only blot. Move the cloth so you are using a clean area of the towel as you are blotting. After lifting as much out as you can, you will be ready to begin treating. If your stain is already set in, proceed to step 2.
Step 2 - Prepare Your Mixture and Treat the Stain
In your bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of dish liquid with a cup of hydrogen peroxide, and mix well. Using another clean, white cloth, dip a portion of the cloth in the mixture and again blot, not rub, the stain. Use a clean part of the towel as you continue to blot the wine stain away. If your stain has set, you may have to repeat this process until it has completely lifted, but it will come out. When your stain is completely removed, you will rinse the area.
Step 3 - Rinse Out Residue
Once again using another cloth, use warm water to blot the dish liquid and hydrogen peroxide residue from the carpet. Be careful not to get it too wet. Wet the towel, wring it out, and once again blot the area. Allow the area to dry, and your carpet will look good as new!
