Wine stain removal from a carpet should be done as soon as possible. The longer the wine sits on the carpet, the more difficult it will be to remove the stain.
Step One – Preparing the Stained Area
Put on your latex gloves. Cover the entire stained area with salt. Leave for 30 minutes, then vacuum all of the salt from the carpet.
Step Two – Neutralizing the Stained Area
Open a bottle or can of club soda. Pour the liquid on the spot, covering the entire area. Leave the club soda on the carpet for five minutes. Use your clean dry towel to gently blot the stain from the carpet.
Step Three – Removing Remaining Stains
If some discoloration remains, prepare this stain removal solution. Combine 1 tsp of carpet shampoo and 1 cup of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide in a bowl. Carefully mix the ingredients together.
Dip your toothbrush into the solution and gently apply to the remaining stain. Blot the area with your clean towel. Repeat the process until the entire stain has been removed.
Step Four – Brushing the Carpet
Wash any remaining stain removal cleaner from the toothbrush and allow it to dry. Use the toothbrush to brush the carpet pile back into its natural direction.
