How to Repair a Loose Cabinet Drawer Handle
what you'll need
- Screwdriver
- Masking tape
- Wood glue
- Toothpicks
- Scissors
If your cabinet door handle is loose and screwing it back in doesn't help, it is often due to the fact that the wood has been stripped and the screw can no longer be secured in it. There are many ways to fix a loose cabinet door handle, but one of the easiest ways is by using wood glue and toothpicks.
Step 1: Remove Cabinet Door Handle
To remove the cabinet door handle, unscrew it from the door and pull it off.
Step 2: Cover the Wood Finish
Before doing anything else, you want to cover the area around the hole with masking tape.
Step 3: Fill the Hole
Fill the hole full of wood glue.
Step 4: Prepare the Toothpicks
Coat the bottom half of the toothpicks with wood glue. Start with at least a dozen. If you end up needing more, prepare more.
Step 5: Place the Toothpicks in Hole
One by one, place toothpicks in the hole. Fill it with as many toothpicks as you can.
Step 6: Let the Glue Dry
The wood glue should dry for at least 24 hours.
Step 7: Attach Cabinet Door Handle
If any toothpicks are protruding from the hole, slice them off. Once finished, screw the cabinet door handle back into the hole.
