How to Repair a Noisy Pine Sleigh Bed

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Old Newspaper
  • Wood Glue
  • Screwdriver
  • Wood Screws
  • L-Shaped Brackets

To repair a pine sleigh bed that squeaks or makes other noise, all you need is some wood glue and a couple of wood screws. A pine bed may squeak or make noise due to loose screws and joints. Follow the simple steps below to repair your sleigh bed.

Step 1 - Remove the Beddings

Remove the beddings in your pine sleigh bed such as the mattress and linens. Remove the box spring as well. Have the beddings cleaned.

Step 2 - Disassemble the Bed Rails

Disassemble the bed rails by either removing the screws located on each bed rail corners or detaching the dowels glued on each rail.

Step 3 - Prepare your Working Area

Place old newspapers at the foot of the bed rails. This is to prevent the glue from running down into the floor when you apply it to each rail.

Step 4 - Pour the Glue

Pour a small amount of wood glue on each of the bed rail corners. Make sure that it gets between the headboard and rails.

Step 5 - Secure the Bed Rails

Secure each bed rail corner by tightening the screws located on each corner. Use an L-shaped bracket to secure the headboard and the bed rails and secure using wood screws.

Step 6 - Tighten the Bed Slats/Box Spring

Screw each bed slat end using wood screws. If your pine sleigh bed has a box spring instead of bed slats, tighten all the screws of the box spring.

Step 7 - Put on the Beddings

Allow the glue to dry before putting on the beddings and the box spring.
