How to Repair a Squeaking Mobile Home Floor
what you'll need
- Masking tape or marker
- Flashlight
- Ratchet
There is a peculiar, yet common, noise on a mobile home floor that mobile home owners experience. Having squeaky floors are not uncommon to these mobile home owners. However, you do not have to suffer the constant squeaking and noise every time someone walks on the floor.
Step 1 - Identify the Location of the Noise
Identify the location of the squeak on your mobile home floor. To do this, walk on the floor and mark the areas with a marker or masking tape where there is a noise.
Step 2 - Identify the Squeaks Underneath the Mobile Home
Armed with your flashlight, go under your mobile home. Generally, the squeaks will be located along the steel frame of the home. Once you are ready, ask a helper or friend to walk along the marked areas on the floor.
Underneath the mobile home, you will find the lag bolts that are spaced about 12 inches apart. Go to the first steel frame and have your helper walk along the first marked space until you can determine which lag bolt needs tightening.
Step 3 - Tightening the Lag Bolts
With the ratchet, tighten the lag bolts. While tightening the bolts, ask your helper to keep stepping on the floor until you do not hear any more squeaks. Keep doing this process until all the marked areas are done.
Step 4 - Checking the Floors
After you have tightened the lag bolts, double check if there are any more squeaks by walking on the entire floor of the mobile home.
