How to Replace a Home Intercom System Unit
If you have a hard-wired home intercom system and want to replace it, the easiest choice is to install a wireless home intercom system. Because removing and rewiring a hard-wired system requires pulling wires from all over your house, many do-it-yourselfers prefer the ease of the wireless installation.
Determining the Placement of the Consoles
The system will come with four or five consoles. One of the consoles may be larger than the others and allow for greater control. This would be the master console. You should place the master unit in a central location.
Mounting the Units
The units will be easy to mount. You will first need to plug them into the power source. A wireless intercom system is considered wireless because you don't have to wire it directly into your home's electrical system. However, you will have to plug the cords from the console into an electrical outlet.
You can then mount each console on the wall with a few screws. Or you may leave them sitting on a table.
If your home intercom system came with a doorbell, you should mount that now as well.
Testing Your Home Intercom System
With everything hooked up, test the units. Make sure that they are reaching one another and that the doorbell is chiming through the system.
