How to Replace a Washing Machine Drain Hose

The day to day wear and tear could damage the washing machine drain hose after a few years. The washing machine drain hose is made out of rubber. The force of the water gushing through the hose could damage it. In this situation, the best thing to do is to replace the washing machine drain hose. It is not a complicated process and can be done at home without the help of a professional. Read on to find out the steps involved in replacing the washing machine drain hose.
Step 1 – Specification
Read the owner’s manual to find the specification of the washing machine drain hose. If you are unable to locate it then, look at the steel tab at the back of the washing machine. Write down the model and the serial number.
Step 2 – Hardware Store
Head to your hardware store and based on this information, the representative will be able to get you the appropriate replacement washing machine drain hose.
Step 3 – Power
Before you start replacing the washing machine drain hose, make sure to pull the electric chord out of the socket. Better yet, turn off the power supply to the house till the job is complete.
Step 4 – Water
Similarly, turn the water supply knob off. If you cannot locate it then temporarily turn off the water supply lines.
Step 5 – Drain Tube
Lift and shift the drain tube into a bucket. This will facilitate in the accumulated water to flow in the bucket rather than all over the floor.
Step 6 – Old Drain Hose
The washing machine drain hose are held in place by clamps. These clamps are attached at the back of the washing machine. Hold the clamp with pliers and unscrew the clamp out of its position with a screwdriver.
Step 7 – Clamp
After removing the clamp inspect it. If it is not damaged or corroded by rust it can be used again. If not toss it away and install a new clamp.
Step 8 – New Washing Machine Drain Hose
Take the new washing machine drain hose and slide the clamp on. The clamp should go through the straight end of the washing machine drain hose.
Step 9 –Metal Connector
Now place the washing machine drain hose onto the connector. The connector is located at the back of the washing machine. Slide the clamp to the position where the drain hose rests on the connector.
Step 10 – Clamp
Now with a wrench make the hold of the clamp tight. Make sure it is fit in properly. Check the washing machine drain hose to see if it is installed correctly.
Step 11 – Installation
Place the washing machine back in position. Reconnect the drain tube into the pipe.
Step 12 – Final Step
Turn on the power supply and open the water supply. Test the machine if everything is working fine.
