How to Replace an Ice Maker Control Module

The control module determines the functioning of the ice maker. If the control module on the ice maker is faulty it will hinder the ice making process. It could lead to either no ice formation or smaller cube sizes. You can fix this problem by replacing the control module on the ice maker. With the right tools and this guide you will be able to do this job yourself.
Step 1 – Cutting the Electric Supply
The first step in replacing an ice maker control module is to cut off the electric supply. Switch the main power supply off or unplug the unit from the outlet socket.
Step 2 – Locating the Ice Maker
It becomes easier to work on the control module once the ice maker is removed from the refrigerator. You will find the ice maker in the freezer section of the refrigerator.
Step 3 – Removing the screws
The ice maker is mounted in the freezer and held in place by screws. These screws have to be removed. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the ones at the bottom. Hold the ice maker and proceed to unscrew the ones at the top.
Step 4 – Removing the Harness
The wiring of the ice maker is fixed into the freezer by a harness. In this step you will have to unplug the harness. This will free the ice maker.
Step 5 – Working on the Shutoff Arm
Locate the shut off arm on the ice maker. Turn the shutoff arm downwards or into the on position.
Step 6 – Removing the Shutoff Arm
The shut off arm is located at the control modules back side. You will need to pull it out of the module.
Step 7 – Removing Additional Screws
You will be able to spot additional screws at the corners. These screws hold the module in place. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the module.
Step 8 – Removing the Module
The ice maker module can now be removed from the box. Make sure you pull it out carefully.
Step 9 – Turning the Ejector Blade
Install the replacement ice maker control module. The ejector blade has to be turned. The cam's flat spot should align with the module holes.
Step 10 – Placing the New Control Module
After aligning the module, place it into the slot. Place the screws and screw them module in place.
Step 11 – Inserting the Shutoff Arm
After placing the module in the ice maker, insert the shut off arm into its original position, at the modules back. Turn the shut off arm into the 'on' position.
Step 12 – Securing the Ice Maker
The last and final step is to install the ice maker into the freezer in the refrigerator. Follow the steps above in the reverse order. Turn on the electric supply to the refrigerator and test the ice maker.
