Digital Light Processing lamps or DLP bulbs are important components of DLP television sets. Because of these bulbs, you are able to enjoy crisp and clear pictures in your high-definition television. The life of these bulbs may only be expected to last 1, 000 to 2, 000 hours, however, and you may need to replace them when your tv starts showing signs of dimness or when it can no longer show pictures on the screen.
Step 1 - Cut Off the Power to Your TV
Turn off the television set and unplug from the power source. Wait until the unit has completely cooled down. Usually, cooling may be 30 minutes or longer, depending on the brand of the TV and length of time that the unit has been used.
Step 2 - Open the DLP Bulb Compartment
Locate the compartment that holds the bulb of your TV. The compartment is usually a small square panel that can be pulled out of the unit easily. Open it with a screwdriver.
Step 3 - Remove the Old Bulb
Take the old bulb out of the unit. This can be done by first removing the screw located at the side of the bulb and then removing the nut attached on its back. Next, remove the ballast wires and the clamp that holds the bulb in place. Use the torx screwdriver when doing this. Be careful not to touch other parts of the TV’s interior, as they may still be hot from use. Make sure that nothing is in the way as you pull the bulb out.
Step 4 - Clean the Bulb Housing Unit
Wipe the bulb panel or housing unit with a microfiber cloth. Remove all dirt and dust that may have accumulated. Be careful not to damage any other part in the TV's interior while doing this.
Step 5 - Install the Replacement Bulb
Insert the new DLP bulb on the area where the old bulb was once located. Screw-in the side connector to the new bulb, taking extra care not to break the delicate terminals. Screw the clamp back into place. Likewise, connect the ballast wires again. Moreover, attach the screw and nut back to their respective places. You may need to wear a pair of gloves or at least arm yourself with a lint-free cloth when handling the bulb. The gloves or the cloth will help ensure that you do not cause any damage to the bulb when handling.
Step 6 - Put Back the Cover of the Bulb Compartment
Slide the compartment cover back to its place. Put back the screws that attach it to the unit.
Step 7 - Test the Unit
Plug the TV to a power source and turn it on to see if the new replacement bulb works fine.
