How to Replace Fan Blades in Airboats

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Socket set
  • Replacement fan blades
  • Screwdriver
  • Work gloves

Airboats are seen in swamp areas as well as on rivers. The main purpose of airboats is to move around quickly, while being able to make it through muddy areas and thick brush. Some airboats can cross land for short distances. The fan on airboats can become jammed up and can snap. The article that follows will explain how to replace them.

Step 1 – Safety

Make sure the key is removed from the airboat. You also need to make sure that the fan is locked in place. Wear work gloves when removing the fan blades.

Step 2 – Remove the Cover

Airboats have covers over the fans, to protect them from debris. Unscrew the hub in the center of the fan. Use the screwdriver to remove the screws holding both halves together. Carefully lift off the cover.

Step 3 – Replace the Blades

Airboats often have several blades, that are connected to the central hub. Remove the hub with a socket wrench and lift off the central plate. Remove any bolts holding the blades in place, and carefully pull them off. Slide the new blade in place, and tighten the bolts. Assemble the remaining pieces in reverse order.
