How to Replace Refrigerator Compressor Mounts

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Screwdriver
  • Crow bar
  • Replacement refrigerator compressor mounts

If your refrigerator is making a lot of noise, it may be time to replace the mounts on your refrigerator compressor. Refrigerator compressor mounts are meant to keep the refrigerator compressor from vibrating against the refrigerator. However as these mounts age, they can become brittle and fall apart. If you would like to replace your refrigerator compressor mounts, here are a few easy steps.

Step 1: Unplug the Refrigerator

Anytime you do any work on your refrigerator, you’ll want to make sure it’s unplugged so you can avoid electric shock.

Step 2: Remove Access Panel

To gain access to the refrigerator compressor you will likely need to remove your refrigerator’s access panel. Refer to your appliance manual for details about how to access your refrigerator compressor.

Step 3: Locate Refrigerator Compressor and Mounts

Below the refrigerator compressor you will find several mounts. You will need to unscrew the screw holding them in place. Work with only one at a time.

Step 4: Replace Refrigerator Compressor Mount

Use your crow bar to move the refrigerator compressor out of the way. Remove the mount and replace with a new one. Repeat for each additional mount.
