How to Replace Sliding Screen Door Wheels

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • New screen door wheels
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver
  • Protective gloves and overalls

A common problem with sliding screen door is tear and wear on the wheels. This brings about unleveled screen door which causes it not to slide smoothly. Replacing the wheel with new ones can correct the problem and this can be easily done at home.

Step 1 – Remove the Screen Door

Locate screws that support the door and use a screwdriver to loosen them. Get an extra person to hold it still and lift the door from its frame.

Step 2 – Remove Old Wheels

At the bottom of the sliding door, use a screw driver to push up the wheels and slide them in to the frame. This causes the frame to lift up and out. Dismount the lower part of the frame from the sliding door. Locate two screws and use a screw driver to remove them from the frame. Remove the frame from the sliding door and place it in a safe position. Get the wheels off from frame.

Step 3 – Replace Sliding Door Wheels

Put the new wheel in position and fasten them in position, make sure that they are rolling freely. Attach the lower frame to the sliding door and push the wheels into the frame. Reattach the door using screws and test the condition of the wheels.
