How to Safely Dispose of Hazardous Waste

by DoItYourself Staff

There are some simple methods to dispose of hazardous waste. The accumulation of toxic waste can be harmful to our environment. You must be careful to dispose of hazardous materials such as batteries, paints, electronic gadgets and other common utilities.

Read All Labels

Read the label of the material that is in question to see if it is toxic or harmful. If the label states, “Wear gloves”, it could mean that it is harmful to your skin. If the label states, “Do not store near the fire,” it could be flammable.

Paints and Liquids

Whatever the waste is made up of, you must dispose of it in a proper manner depending on its nature. If it’s hazardous liquid, you can soak it up using sawdust or paper rags to solidify the paint and then dispose of the container and the solid waste separately.

Herbicides and Pesticides

You must pack herbicides, pesticides and oil paints securely and dispose them within the correct areas of your city.

Electronics

There are hazardous collection centers where you can dispose of electronic items like TVs, batteries and cell phones.
