How to Spray on Drywall Texture
what you'll need
- Masking tape
- Old newspapers
- Coveralls, protective gloves, mask and eyewear
- Scrap wall board (for testing)
- Wall texture spray machine
- Wallboard compound
Drywall texture may be added to various walls or ceilings in your home to hide any imperfections or to give a bit of personality to your rooms. The easiest way to apply drywall texture to walls is to spray it on.
Step 1 – Test the Spray Machine
Before you start spraying on the actual wall, you should test the spray machine on a piece of scrap wall board. You may also test several textures the machine can apply, so that you can decide on the one you want for your rooms. Check each setting of the machine.
Step 2 – Apply Masking Tape
Use masking tape and old newspapers to cover the areas that are near the wall on which you want to apply texture.
Step 3 – Fill the Spray Machine
Insert the compound into the spray machine and add some water. Mix, until you obtain a consistent paste.
Step 4 – Spray the Walls
Apply the wallboard compound, moving the spray machine constantly. Apply a thin layer and if needed, apply additional layers. Allow the surface to dry prior to applying paint.
