How to Stain Wooden Wall Mounted Headboards

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Wood stain
  • Paint brush
  • Clean rag
  • Painters tape
  • Drop cloth

Knowing how to stain wooden wall mounted headboards can give your room a new look with very little cost. To do so, you will need a few simple materials.

Step 1: Determine Stain Color and Type

To determine what color would be the best choice for your room, consider the color of any other wooden furniture in the room. Water-based stains dry quickly with few fumes, but oil-based stains are easier to apply.

Step 2: Prepare Work Area

If possible, remove the headboard from the wall to a well-ventilated area. If you cannot remove it from the wall, use painters tape on the surrounding wall area. Be sure to get the edge of the tape as close to the headboard as possible, without covering the wood. Cover the work area with a drop cloth to prevent spills.

Step 3: Stain Headboard

Once you have prepared the area, use the paint brush to brush stain onto the wood. If you want a very dark, rich color, leave the stain to soak. If you want a light stain, wipe the excess quickly with the dry rag.
