How to String RV Patio Lights

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Outdoor lights
  • Hammer
  • Hooks
  • Extension cord
  • Lanterns or light coverings such as white paper bags
  • Utility knife
  • Ribbon or ornament hooks
  • Fishing line
  • Tape measure

RV patio lights can give your space a decorative look and feel. Whether your RV is new or you have had it for years, it is never too late to spruce it up with lights. If you plan on stringing the RV patio lights on your own, follow the steps below to do the job safely and effectively.

Step 1 - Measure and Prepare

Before buying your materials, measure the area where you plan to use the lights. This will help to give you an idea of quantity while shopping. When you buy the lights, you may want to stick with battery-operated ones if you do not have constant access to an outlet.

Step 2 - String Lights

Beginning on one end of the patio, secure a hook to the wall at the height that you want the lights. Attach the end of the lights to the hook. Place another hook in the middle and one on the end of the patio, attaching the lights to each hook as you go.

Now, attach the lanterns or white bags over the bulbs to add to the design. You may need to remove the bulb, attach the lantern and then replace the bulb. You can use hooks or fishing line to attach them.
