How to Test a Switch-Receptacle Combo

Over time, you may find that you will need to test your switch receptacle combo. This is not a very difficult task to do. You will simply need to know the right steps to take and have the right tools in order to do the job properly.
Materials needed:
Electrical Tape
Gloves
Step 1 – Know How Continuity Tester Works
Basically, a continuity tester is a battery that is in a housing. This battery has a test probe that is connected to a test wire as well as a battery housing. This is done so with an alligator clip that is connected to one end. With the current turned off, this will help to conclude when electrical components are carrying electricity and why.
Step 2 – Test Continuity Tester
In order to test if the continuity tester is working, you will need to get the power cord disconnected. All of the switches should be on. Clip on the alligator clip to one of the prongs in your cord. Touch the prong and the tip of the continuity tester. If it is working, then it will light up.
Step 3 – Test Switch Receptacle Combo
You will need to get the circuit breaker turned on. The toggle switch will need to be turned off and on, look at the light bar to see if it works properly. If it does not, then press the reset button.
