How to Test a Washing Machine Centrifugal Switch
what you'll need
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Ohms meter
Inspecting the centrifugal switch on your washing machine is a part of a regular maintenance schedule. The centrifugal switch is one of the means by which the machine controls the action of water in the drum of the washing machine, and it is vital that it works correctly. Checking out the centrifugal switch will involve removing the item from the machine.
Step 1: Remove the Device
Before you go any further, you will need to turn off the washing machine at the mains. Make sure that both the electricity and the water supply are turned off. Once there, go to the control panel of your machine, and locate the centrifugal switch, which should be close to the motor. Remove the plug from the switch, and then unscrew any mounting screws. Pull off the leads using the pliers.
Step 2: Apply the Ohms Meter
When the centrifugal switch has been taken off of the motor, push your ohms meter into the terminals. You should have your meter set to RX1, and it should read nothing, or zero, when touching the switch. Once the check is complete, replace the switch, and turn your power and water supply back on.
