How to Test Your Dryer Air Flow

Just in case your clothes dryer is not drying properly or the air flow is impeded, consider testing the dryer for possible blockages in the vent system. This is not only important as it impedes the drying process but also because it could result in a potential fire hazard.

Step 1 - Check Exterior

To know if there is something wrong with the vent, first place your hand over the exterior when the dryer is in motion. If you do not feel a strong flow of air coming, follow the steps mentioned below.

Step 2 - Lint Trap

Check the lint trap that is located on the top of the dryer or just inside the door. Remove all the lint that is built in this trap. This must be done on a regular basis. In fact, after every drying load, clean it once. Ensure you do not operate the dryer when the lint trap is not in its place.

Step 3 - Vent Hose

If this does not solve the issue, look behind the dryer to check if the vent hose is secured to the dryer and the exterior of the vent. It is also important to check if the hose is not bent. If properly installed, check inside the vent hose. Ensure the dryer plus is removed. Next, check the vent for any lint build-up. Also, make sure there are no tears in the vent hose. Vacuum away all the lint that has probably accumulated in this part of the dryer.
