How to Update Your Computer's Motherboard Drivers

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Name of your computer manufacturer
  • Name of the operating system on your computer
  • Internet access

The motherboard driver processes all of the codes and data found in your computer. The main memory is linked to the motherboard. This is where all the information is temporarily stored while the processor is functioning. If incompatible drivers are installed or drivers become obsolete, problems will arise with the speed and performance of your computer. The older the motherboard, the greater the chances you will experience difficulties and require an update.

Step One – Finding the Manufacturer of your Computer

If you are unsure of your computer manufacturer, examine the exterior casing to find the name of the company that produced your CPU. Go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer.

Step Two – Finding the Driver Downloads and Support

Navigate to the download and support section of the manufacturer's website. Locate the driver you need to upgrade your motherboard. Choose the operating system that is running on your computer. The website should then lead you to a list of drivers.

Step Three – Downloading Your Driver Upgrade

From the list of available motherboard upgrade drivers, click on the one that you need. Follow the instructions provided by the downloading program.

Step Four – Installing Your Driver Upgrade

Once your upgrade has downloaded to your computer, install the system. Once again, follow the instructions provided by the installing program. Most computer manufacturer websites have download assistance tips if you experience any difficulties.
