How to Use a Carpet Steam Cleaner

Most hotels, apartments and even the homes have floor carpeting and the way to completely clean it is by using a carpet steam cleaner. A carpet steam cleaner may be owned, rented or hire services of a janitorial company to carpet steam your home or office. The steam cleaner comes with full instructions on how to operate it so it is best to read the user’s manual before proceeding with steaming your carpet. Below are the materials that you need along with the instructions on how to use a carpet steam cleaner.
Step 1-Clearing Area for Carpet Steam Cleaning
Clear the area of any furniture, fixtures and other decors prior to steaming your carpet. If the items are too heavy to lift, just push it to the sides. At the same time, all carpet areas should be cleaned thoroughly without the distraction of items in the way of carpet steam cleaning.
Step 2-Vacuum the Area First
Vacuum all the carpet areas thoroughly to remove all the dusts and debris before using the carpet steam cleaner.
Step 3-Readying the Carpet Steam Cleaner
Ready the carpet steam cleaner for the next phase after vacuuming. Take out the water container accessory of the machine and fill it up with hot water mixed with 1 to 2 cupfuls of a cleaning agent. When the area to be carpet steamed has a lot of tough stains, more cleaning agent should be mixed with the hot water. The filter of the carpet steamer should be clean as well. If the filter is dirty, clean it thoroughly with hot water. Return the water container with the mixture back into the machine.
Step 4-Wetting and Scrubbing the Carpet
Organize the path where the carpet steaming in the room would go so that all the areas will be thoroughly cleaned. Work at one corner of the area first then eventually moving on to the next area. Make a forward on the machine with the simultaneous pulling of the trigger to release water to wet the carpet. Then pull back the machine slowly as this motion will scrub the area just that got wet.
Step 5-Drying the Carpet
Work on the carpet steaming until all the areas are fully cleaned. Once the whole area is covered, allow the area to dry completely. Place the furniture, fixtures and other objects you removed in step 1 back into their proper places.
Some tips are offered for effective carpet cleaning. One tip is to wear socks or wrap the feet with a plastic bag to protect them from the wet surface of the carpet area. At the same time, it will prevent the wet carpet from being dirty again. The best place to start the carpet cleaning is on the farthest part of the room. The area by the doorway should be the last to clean so that when you are done with the cleaning, it is easier to move on to the next room.
