  • Extension lead
  • Cloth

If you are a keen cook, you will find that an electric pressure cooker can be an alternative to the manual kind that is used on a stove. There are different practices that must be put in place in order to use the appliance effectively. By following a few steps, you will find that the pressure cooker is not difficult to use.

Step 1 – Instructions

Whether or not you have used an electric pressure cooker before, it is prudent to read the instructions before making use of it. This is especially essential if you have suffered the jolting experience of the lid flying off! The instructions for one appliance will differ from one and another so don’t assume that it will not be necessary because you have used one previously. The instructions will also be needed if there is any assembly required.

Step 2 – Preparation

When the electric pressure cooker is new, it is especially important to undertake some preparation work before using it. Start by checking the appliance to ensure it is intact and doesn’t have any defects, especially the point where the power lead meets the body of the cooker. If there is any assembly required, this must be undertaken as part of the preparation. Clean the appliance with a soft damp cloth in accordance with the instructions. Do not immerse it in water under any circumstances.

Step 3 – Position

Place the pressure cooker on a level and stable surface that is away from other sources of heat. Ensure that the cable is within distance of the power cable. If necessary, use an extension cable to prevent the risk of stretching it beyond its capability. Avoid letting the cable become twisted. The lid will usually have a handle that can be aligned with the handle of the pot section.

Step 4 – Check Recipe

Where you are following a specific recipe, peruse it in advance of doing any cooking so that you are aware of what is required. This will also allow you to set the timer in accordance with the length of time that the food requires to cook. Always make sure that you put enough water into the cooker to prevent it from drying out.

Step 5 –Cook

Plug in the pressure cooker and switch it on. An electric pressure cooker will often have an indicator that confirms the level of pressure within the cooker. Fill the cooker with the food and liquid and position the lid securely. Ensure that the pressure cooker is no more than two-thirds full to ensure that there is enough space for the pressure to build. Adjust the dial to ensure that the pressure is sufficient and can escape when necessary. Turn on the timer and check on the pressure cooker on a regular basis. Do not take off the lid before all of the pressure is released and aim it away from the face when you do remove it.
