How to Use Cyanoacrylate as a Filler

by DoItYourself Staff

what you'll need

  • Cloth
  • Saw dust
  • Baking soda
  • Cyanoacrylate

If you want to fill a hole, and have some convenient cyanoacrylate glue on hand, then this can make the ideal filler. In order to construct a filling material from the adhesive, you will need to add some materials to it. There are a number of items which you can use to create this filler, including saw dust and bicarbonate of soda.

Step 1 - Using Baking Soda

Start by cleaning out the hole that you want to fill. You can use a cloth to remove any traces of dirt or debris which have been left in the hole. Once you are sure that you have cleaned the surface, add a teaspoon of baking soda to the hole. Keep adding baking soda until the whole is filled up. You should then take a drop of your cyanoacrylate, and place it into the baking soda. These chemicals will react together, creating an exothermic product, and some poisonous vapors.

Step 2 - Using Saw Dust

You can also use saw dust in a similar manner if you want to fill a hole in wood. Be careful of the heat produced during the reaction, and make sure that the item has cooled down completely before leaving it alone.
