Vinyl floors are often the choice for those of us on a budget that still want a floor that is stylish. Owning vinyl floors offers several perks that you do not find with other flooring types. They are inexpensive to purchase, easy to install, rarely stain and are easy to clean. If you have ever walked on vinyl floors and slipped but it was not wet then you just experienced the wax layer present on vinyl floors. This slipping is often present when the wax has rubbed off in one area and you step to an area that still has the wax layer. Do not worry though because you can remedy this problem by learning how to apply wax to vinyl floors. This article will show you how to easily reapply the wax on vinyl floors.
Step 1 – Prepare the Area
You cannot possibly begin to apply wax to vinyl floors without starting with a bare surface. Depending where your vinyl floors are located you will need to remove everything sitting on it. This includes removing a dining room table, any chairs or end tables. Place it outside of the space and off of the vinyl floors.
Step 2 – Clean the Vinyl Floors
Placing new wax on a dirty vinyl floor is never a good idea as wax will not adhere to oil or grime. The only way to make sure the floor is ready for the wax is by cleaning it. Fill a bucket about half full with warm water and to it add the cleaner formulated for vinyl floors. This is important so you do not accidentally remove any remaining wax. Submerge the mop in the bucket to saturate it with the water and cleaner. Wring out the excess water so the mop is no longer dripping. Push it along the vinyl floor using even pressure. Wet the mop as needed to clean the entire floor. Never dry the floor with rags; let it dryon its own.
Step 3 – Wax the Vinyl Floors
After the vinyl floor has dried begin applying wax to the floor. When you purchase wax make sure you read the product label carefully. Some wax products require other chemicals to be added or certain precautions be taken prior to using the product. Pour the wax into a wax bucket to begin the mixing process if that is required of the wax you are using. Place the wax inside of the wax tray for dispersal. These trays are shallow and rectangular and they make sure that your wax applicator gets maximum penetration. Start at the furthest section of the floor and mop the wax toward you. Brush the wax on in an even and straight line. For each line of wax you apply, be certain that you slightly overlap the one previously. Do not apply too much wax because a little goes a long way.
