With so many different designs and styles to choose from, you can either select a wall sconce style that coordinates well with your other lighting, or you can choose a style that creates a striking contrast. Now matter which wall sconce style you need to follow the important steps below to ensure the safety of everyone including yourself. Read below for the step-by-step instructions. Its common sense to shut off all electricity in the area in which you will be working in. You can shut off power sources from your electric box or junction which is generally located in the basement or garage. If you live in an apartment or town home, chances are your power box is some inside the home. Aside from the wall sconces, you will need one screwdriver, one pair of pliers, one small electric drill, one keyhole saw, one light switch, one pack of fish tape, and electrical wire. Make sure to cut a vertical rectangle hole for the switch and a horizontal rectangle hole for the sconce. It helps to draw out the rectangles on the wall first, then use a drywall saw to make the cuts. Then drill a hole in on the stud inside the wall. Run a cable from a nearby electrical outlet to supply a source of power. Keep in mind that before you choose the proper location for the sconce(s), you must make sure that they are located near an adequate source of power. And make sure that each sconce is at least 60” above the floor. Pay close attention to the details of the instructions that come with the sconce kit. Most kits will have you install cut-in boxes inside the wall and mount the sconces with brackets. Each sconce kit may vary, so make sure to thoroughly read the instructions ahead of time. Depending of the sconce you are installing, make sure that you have the right type of light bulb to fit. You never want to turn on the light switch without the light bulb. Wire the sconce with the proper light switch. Make sure that all wiring is covered behind the wall, and never leave any wires hanging outside or nearby a wall. Once you’re done with installing the wall sconce with power source and the light switch, make sure that you turn on the electricity power source. Double check to make sure your light bulb is screwed in tightly. Then you can turn on the light. Keep it on for a little while (5 minutes or so) to make sure that the lights are not flickering and that they fully function.Step 1 - Shut Off All Electricity
