Identifying and Finding Clover Mites in Your Home

by DoItYourself Staff

Clover mites population consist entirely of females. They are tiny bugs with round bodies and long legs and are reddish brown in color. They live in your lawn especially if the lawn is heavily fertilized because the moist grass gives them good feeding opportunities.

Identifying Clover Mites

Clover mites disperse in different areas by crawling from place to place or by being washed away by the rains. Mites enter your home and hide in wall voids, cracks or crevices. Put boric acid into a shaker bottle and apply on the mites directly and thoroughly, within a few days you will see their population dwindle.

Controlling Clover Mites

Control of clover mites inside and outside your home is fairly simple. Treat the foundation of your house with an insecticide application. Seal any cracks and crevices in your house with caulk and if need be, apply insecticide there so that the mites die. A simple way of getting rid of dust mites is vacuuming your furniture and drapery taking special care that you don’t quash any mite and leaving a permanent stain.

If boric acid doesn’t work well, then move on to a commercial product called Malathion. This spray is unsafe if inhaled in large quantities so it is better to wear a breathing mask and gloves when handling it. Spray the area inside and outside your home well and you will be satisfied with the result.
