Important Safety Precautions to Take When Repairing an Electrical Light Switch
Repairing an electric light switch is a very easy task and so you might do it by yourself. But before you try to repair it or replace it you must know the precautions very well. Because you are going to deal with electricity any mistake or carelessness on your part might turn into you being shocked by electricity. The few things that you must consider for you safety are given below:
Turn off the Power Supply
Before opening the switch or doing anything, turn off the power supply and you can do this by either opening the circuit breaker or turn off the power from the main. It is only after the repairing or replacing the light switch is complete, turn on the power.
Use Insulating Tapes
Always use insulating tapes or sprays on the connections and specially the hot ones. This ensures that there is no leakage of current from the light switch. Do not keep any excess loose wire coming out from the connections. Trim the wires or use wire connectors. For wiring a three-way switch always mark the white wire.
Keep Your Hands Dry
While wiring a light switch, make sure there is no water on your hand otherwise it can lead to some internal short-circuit.
