Dear Barry,

How can I find a home inspector who specializes in evaluating new homes?
-- June

Dear June,

Home inspectors do not specialize in specific vintages of real estate. Most are available for the inspection of any home someone might wish to buy, regardless of age, type, or condition. What you need is an inspector with many years of experience, someone who can spot the not-so-apparent imperfections beneath the glitter and gloss of seemingly unblemished newness. Before choosing your inspector, call several real estate offices in your area. Ask who is the most thorough and meticulously detailed inspector available. A truly qualified home inspector will be able to find defects in any new home, regardless of how well it is built.
