Install Copper Pigtails on an Aluminum Electrical Conductor
what you'll need
- Copper pigtails
- Wire crimper
- Fixture
Electrical conductors are found in every wiring project. You need an electrical conductor to create proper conduction of electricity through the electrical wires. As you look at an electrical wiring within a residential home, you should not be alarmed to find that the electrical fixtures found in the home are attached to the home wiring by different types of conductors. Below is a quick instruction on how to install copper pigtails to an aluminum electrical conductor.
Step 1 - Turn off Electricity
Turn off the electricity to the home. It is always best to turn off the power to the entire house while you are working. This insures proper safety needs are met.
Step 2 - Install the Copper Pigtail
Before you install the fixture, install the copper pigtail to the aluminum wiring. Crimp the wiring using a wire crimper to the aluminum and secure the connection. Terminate the copper pigtail to the other end of the fixture and secure the fixture in place.
Step 3 - Turn on Electricity
Go back down to your fuse box or to your circuit breaker box and turn the electricity back onto the home or flip the circuit back to the on position.
