Install Wall Wood Paneling Over Cement
what you'll need
- Measuring tape
- Jig saw
- Wall panels
- Furring strips
- Adhesive
- Nails
- Hammer
- Concrete sealer
- Paintbrush or roller
Installing wall wood paneling over a cement wall is a great way to improve the appearance of the walls. This installation can be completed in one day and is fairly easy. Follow the steps outlined below.
Step 1 - Prepare the Walls Properly
First, you will need to make sure that the walls are properly cleaned from mold, mildew and other dirt. Next, you have to seal the walls. Apply a specialised concrete wall sealer with a paintbrush or roller and allow it to dry well before proceeding.
Step 2 - Attaching Furring Strips
You will need to attach the furring strips. These are basically the framing foundation for your wall paneling. Begin by attaching the horizontal furring strips all along the top and bottom perimeter of the walls. Next, move to the vertical furring strips at every few intervals, usually at every 16 inches. You can install the strips with adhesive.
Step 3 - Installing the Wall Paneling
You can start installing the wall paneling. Apply adhesive on the furring strips and then nail the paneling onto them for additional security. In areas where there are any obstructions in the wall, such as electrical sockets, you will have to cut the panel accordingly.
