Install Wall-Mounted Bathroom Cabinets In 5 Steps

Wall-mounted bathroom cabinets are a wonderful way to save space in your bathroom, reduce clutter, and store personal items out of the way. There are several different kinds of wall-mounted bathroom cabinets to choose from and each has their own purpose and use.

Materials Needed

•    Stud finder
•    Level
•    Straight edge
•    Hammer
•    Nails
•    Screws
•    Screwdriver/power drill

Step 1 - Find the Correct Mounting Position

Using a stud finder, mark the location of the wall studs in the area where you want to hang your wall-mounted bathroom cabinet. Hanging your cabinet on wall studs will ensure that your cabinet will not collapse off of the wall when you place any heavier items in it.

Step 2 - Mark the Area for Reference

Using your level and straight edge, draw a level horizontal line on the wall where the bottom of each wall-mounted cabinet will be placed.  Lightly map your cabinet placement by penciling in your cabinet on the wall where you intend to place it.

Step 3 - Attach Supports

Temporarily attach a 1-by-3 wood support rail along the line you have just drawn for the bottom edge of your cabinet with three or four 2-inch screws, drilling them into the wall studs. Use your level to make sure this support rail is even and your cabinets will hang level.

Step 4 - Place the Cabinet

Lightly place your cabinet on the upper edge of your temporary support rail and hold it against the wall (you will probably need help with this part of the project). Drill pilot holes through the strong sturdy part of the cabinet back or the support rail of the cabinet into your located wall studs. Using wall screws at least 1.5 inches long or longer, screw the cabinet to the wall as it rests on the support.

Step 5 - Finishing Steps

Remove the temporary wall support.
